These objects recall an antecedent way of life and entertain imagined landscapes, pipe dreams and fishing tales. Whether it is ceramic pieces, stone tools or metal objects the value is experienced in the unearthing process. Glass shards and stones were located in Sydney’s lower north shore but other finds were detected and retrieved during walks in the Japanese countryside and on the shores of an ancient trade route that passes near by. They have been amassed, sorted, reconfigured and documented on the surface of a found Japanese antique square tray made from solid wood (Japanese cypress) finished with black lacquer.
